Welcome to the

Foundation Stage

Miss Hobson and Mrs Heeley are the class teachers. Miss Hobson teaches every day apart from Wednesday afternoons when Mrs Heeley will teach. Miss Burton is the teaching assistant and in class every day.

During the Autumn Term we learned a lot about ‘Ourselves’. We have now made lots of new friendships and we are learning to become more independent. We are continuing to grow in confidence everyday, pushing and challenging ourselves to "Be Bold and Go For Gold".

During the spring term our topic was 'Discovery'. We explored constructive and respectful friendships and emotions. We had the opportunity to develop our imaginative play and take on the roles of characters linked to the terms literacy texts. We continued to develop our independence and confidence. We looked at how we can lead a healthy lifestyle.

In Literacy we will be primarily working on Speaking and Listening activities to enable your child to concentrate during whole class activities and being able to follow two step instructions. We will be exploring the following topics/ texts in literacy during the Summer term: Hatching Chicks, The Hungry Caterpillar, Life Cycles, Planting Bean Seeds, Yucky Worms, What the Ladybird Hears, Billy's Bucket and Stanley's Stick.

In Reception and KS1 we use the Monster Phonics scheme of synthetic phonics straight away. We learn 4 / 5 sounds a week and learning how to blend them and read whole words. This term we will be focusing on writing simple sentences using our phonics knowledge so far. Please find the top 100 High Frequency Words and the Monster Phonics Graphemes attached to refer to at home. We use the Monster Phonics Reading Scheme in school and your child will be continuing their reading journey. Some books will be sent home to read together to promote your children’s love of reading. We will also be introducing your child to the 'Reading Challenge' which can be completed at home with your favourite books.

In Reception we love to make use of our fantastic outdoor areas. We take part in regular outdoor learning opportunities with our specialist outdoor lead 'Taylor Made Outdoor Learning'. Outdoor learning sessions are bespoke to our Reception children, led by Rosie Taylor and her dog Maggie. All children get to experience bush craft skills, orienteering, learning about the natural world, firepit activities and various creative outdoor projects. All of the sessions help to enhance our curriculum and teach the children valuable safety skills and knowledge about our natural environment.

If children need to self isolate, remote learning will be provided each day on Google Classroom. You can find your log in stuck in your yellow reading record. Search for 'Google Classroom' in your search engine to access the remote learning for Reception children.
